I just finished a great book by Jodi Picoult, Plain Truth, a month early for my book group discussion. Now I'm still not sleeping so well and need something captivating...any suggestions? I'm done with the childbirth review and just need something escapist!

Have you read "The Red Tent"? Biblically themed fiction. Not for everyone, but I really enjoyed it.
ps. #4 is due 4.27
I just started reading the book Middlesex (until I left it on a plane) and it was FASCINATING! I'll have to go rebuy it.
Jen has read "The Red Tent" - its about a place where women have their babies.
Middlesex was started by Jen but not finished due to subject matter.
A fine recommendation would be "War Through the Ages" by Lynn Montross. It outlines in detail how warfare has evolved and how to create an intense feeling of abandonment and imminent destruction in your enemy's heart.
Applications run deep, from strategic planning, to sports, to family relationships.
I watched oprah today and the book "eat, pray, love" looked good, but I haven't read it. London is soo cute!! If you are up this way during Christmas we should get together. Maybe that is when you are due. I don't remember.
The History of Love...I'm only halfway through and left it in Las Vegas, but I was really enjoying it. I don't know how "escapist" it is, but it's good.
Thank you for your suggestions! Brotimmy, funny that you should recommend a book you didn't finish. Another friend also mentioned "eat, pray, love." We can always count on Oprah, can't we?
I just bought "Leap of Faith" by Queen Noor. I enjoy biographies.
Stolen Lives: 20 years in a desert jail was a very interesting book. A true story about a family imprisoned after their father was part of a coup in Morocco.
My fav book is the Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.
Have you read "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel? I haven't read it yet, but I heard it's really good! I actually have it on hold at the library, so I'm going to read it soon.
It's based on a true story and it's about a boy named Pi from India. He's the the son of a zookeeper, and when he's 16, he and his family travel by boat to Canada. On their trip there, the boat sinks and only him and a 450-pound Bengal tiger survive.
The other one I've heard is good is "The Secret Journal of Brett Colton" by Kay Lynn Mangum. I haven't read it yet, (another one I'm planning on reading). It's another young adult, quick read like "Twilight". I don't know what it's about, but it's supposed to be good.
My Name is Asher Lev, is one of my favorites. I also enjoy books like The Tao of Pooh, Ender's Game and sometimes its fun for me to go back and read those childhood books that I loved. Unfortunately I haven't read anything new recently.
I liked when Nicole mentioned Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn... quick, timeless reading. I'm a big fan of the classics- what about Jane Eyre?
Life of Pi is good.
I like Orson Scott Card. You might enjoy "Enchantment" or "Pastwatch."
For light, before bed reading, "Atlas Shrugged."
Atlas Shrugged is a classic must read.
You must read "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer. Total escapist read. There are 3 books in the series so far, and all of them brilliant, fun, quick reads.
So, I came across The Red Tent at Pick of the Litter and recalled that it was a book club book at one point. I started reading it and was immediately turned off by it after page 6. Should I continue reading it? Did you like it? My biggest problem was the images of Jacob it was forming in my head that I didn't approve of. Anyway, I want to read it if I'll benefit from it. Do you mind telling me what you thought of it?
