Barack Defends Experience - Kind of...

Last night on Anderson Cooper, Barak defended his experience (see this link http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/01/obama-defends-natural-disaster-experience/)

A couple of problems here:

1) He is left comparing his experience to that of Sara Palin - THE VICE PRESIDENT CANDIDATE!!! How funny is that? The debate has turned to answering the question of whether the top of the Dem ticket has more experience than the number two on the GOP ticket. Never a good thing. That could come back to bite you Senator.

2) He compares his running a campaign and "handling the systems" as trumping her executive experience as a Governor. Say what? Come again? Do you really think that argument holds water? "I ran a great campaign, so I deserve to run the USA. Her experience as Governor is not really relevant when you compare it to the two campaigns I have run."

Lose/Lose for Senator Obama...He really should ask for my advice first.

Had you taken time to read the actual Anderson Cooper 360 transcript from CNN:
instead of just reading another blog, you would have read that the reason Obama compared his experience to that of SaraH Palin (notice that you spelled her name incorrectly on your blog posting, she has an 'H' at the end of her name) is because Anderson Cooper ASKED HIM TO!!!!!

COOPER: And, Senator Obama, my final question -- your -- some of your Republican critics have said you don't have the experience to handle a situation like this. They in fact have said that Governor Palin has more executive experience, as mayor of a small town and as governor of a big state of Alaska.

What's your response?

OBAMA: Well, you know, my understanding is, is that Governor Palin's town of Wasilla has, I think, 50 employees. We have got 2,500 in this campaign. I think their budget is maybe $12 million a year. You know, we have a budget of about three times that just for the month.

So, I think that our ability to manage large systems and to execute, I think, has been made clear over the last couple of years. And, certainly, in terms of the legislation that I passed just dealing with this issue post-Katrina of how we handle emergency management, the fact that many of my recommendations were adopted and are being put in place as we speak, I think, indicates the degree to which we can provide the kinds of support and good service that the American people expect.

--------------------------------------
And, if we want to talk about handling natural disasters, I suggest you examine the Republican handling of Katrina or the McCain photo-op in Mississippi this week (which pulled law enforcement officials away from disaster preparations).

I think the real issue we should be examining is not whether Governor Palin can handle a natural disaster but what she is doing to our earth today. Sarah Palin supports drilling in ANWR, the use of coal-burning powerplants (as I write this, a new coal plant is being built in her hometown of Wasilla), strip mining, and almost anything else that will unnecessarily exploit the diminishing resources of Alaska and destroy its environment. She has also spent money (that could have been used to help save Alaska's failing school system) in support of aerial hunting of wolves and bears. And, if we want to talk experience...you are right, we should NOT compare Palin with Obama, we should compare her with Senator Joe Biden. When you line Palin up with Biden, the comparison would be laughable if it were not so serious. Sarah Palin knows nothing of economics (admittedly a weak area for McCain), or of international affairs. She knows very little about national government, Social Security, unemployment, or health care systems. The idea of her meeting with heads of foreign governments is frightening. Anyone who thinks that governing a state with a population less than that of San Bernardino County and being a PTA President qualifies you for the office of Vice President should think again.

Crusader-
I think you may be missing the point. The point is that the debate has turned into pitting the experience of the #1 vs. the #2 - which makes him look weak. I did catch that Anderson did ask him that question - so you make a fair point. But its just interesting to see how he chooses to exalt himself above SaraHHHHH :) Just don't call me a Dan Quail. My father is an college educator and he has told me that spelling doesn't necessarily mark intelligence. So I take great comfort in that :)

I agree with you, we should be comparing #2 vs. #2.

I hope your misspelling of Dan QUAYLE is a joke....I am a college professor too, and I tell my students that spelling and attention to detail say a lot about a person! :)

Glad we agree on the #2 vs. #2--you do have to admit that it is a little scary that Palin did not get a passport until LAST YEAR!!! Yikes....
