Disneyland

This trip to Disneyland is made up of debits and credits called: "good parent moves" and "bad parent moves."

Let's begin with Bad Parent:

  1. First ride (Pirates of the Caribbean) made London cry. Hard. And Loud. How was I supposed to know she would be afraid of the dark and that it is much scarier with Captain Jack Sparrow?
  2. After filling her head with pleasantries from Fantasyland, such as It's a Small World and other mild rides, we attempted the Haunted House.
  3. Took London on the Matterhorn, remembering all too well my first trip to Disneyland and being terrified of the abominable snowman. She survived without crying. Is a blank, unresponsive stare worse?
  4. Didn't put London on a leash and lost her. Just kidding.
  5. Didn't buy London the princess postcard she wanted.
Moving on to Good Parent:
  1. Took girls to Disneyland (ok, yes, that's a freebie)
  2. Promptly removed London from the Haunted House at first opportunity. Learned they have handicap exits for just such occasions.
  3. Stood in the longest line of the day (at least one hour) to meet the princesses (see photos)
  4. Rode Storybookland ride so that London could see the Three Pigs' Houses; possible the most snooze-worthy ride in the park.
  5. In order to promote appreciation for modest clothing, purchased mickey souvenir postcard rather than Ariel postcard.
Other things learned:
  1. Eden is more of a thrill-seeker than London--just an observation. (see teacup picture)
  2. Of all the princesses, Ariel had the worst make-up, and Mulan had the best-trained photo-ready smile.
  3. It's a Small World is a surprisingly long line and could benefit from installation of fast pass.
  4. When you go on your birthday, it is free, but consider this: they give you a button with your name on it and all day long, the staff calls you by name and says "Happy Birthday." Somewhat creepy/annoying. Tim took the button off around lunchtime.
  5. Apparently there are some amazing rides that we didn't know about beforehand, and therefore missed, such as Toy Story and updated Space Mountain.
